Inclusivity: Empowering Local Communities for Transformed Economies

Background

Throughout the SIDS4 preparatory process, SIDS have affirmed their commitment to revitalize and diversify their economies. While recovery is vital, there needs to be special attention to inclusive growth which benefits local communities, including women, youth, and indigenous peoples.

Local empowerment unlocks the potential of communities to reinvent SIDS’ economies while embracing cultural heritage and indigenous knowledge.

Sports, creative industries, digital tools, and new approaches to tourism can open doors for SIDS if effective Public-Private-Community Partnerships are established. Lessons learnt over the past ten years provide evidence that digital technology and capacity building can generate benefits for communities, businesses, as well as governments in a sustainable way.

The session will explore how to link and grow economies in an inclusive manner to drive transformation and resilience.
