Capacity Building: Training Manual Development for Integrated Forest Landscape Restoration
Project Overview: Turning the Tide on Deforestation
The Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) is spearheading the project “Turning the Tide on Deforestation” to bolster the capacities of four developing countries in creating and executing integrated forest landscape restoration plans. This initiative aims to combat deforestation, address its root causes, and tackle challenges such as climate change, forest fires, and zoonotic diseases, ultimately contributing to the forest-related Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Objectives
- Capacity Building: Equip countries to develop national forest restoration plans and frameworks that attract public and private investments.
- Training Development: Create tailored training modules for technical and policy-level stakeholders involved in integrated forest landscape restoration (IFLR).
Consultant Role
An international consultant will be engaged to design and develop training modules, session plans, and materials focused on IFLR. The role includes reviewing existing resources, identifying learning gaps, and preparing comprehensive training content.
Key Tasks
- Review and Inception Report:
- Assess existing training materials and identify competency gaps.
- Deliver an Inception Report outlining the scope, learning objectives, and structure of the training materials.
- Training Module Development:
- Research and analyse relevant materials and best practices.
- Create a structured outline for the training manual, including detailed session plans, exercises, and assessment tools.
- Develop user-friendly materials that incorporate real-life examples, case studies, and visuals.
- Pilot Testing and Finalization:
- Test the training manual in one of the pilot countries, gather feedback, and refine the content based on participants’ experiences.
- Deliver a finalized version of the training manual that incorporates all feedback and best practices from all pilot countries.
This project aims to significantly enhance the capabilities of developing nations in managing forest resources, ultimately leading to more sustainable practices and resilience against climate change impacts.
