The world’s Least Developed Countries are in a race against time to deliver the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030. The remaining years need to usher in a new global partnership to ensure these 46 countries benefit from social, economic and environmental development.

The Fifth United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries (LDC5) is a once-in-a-decade opportunity to accelerate sustainable development in the places where international assistance is needed the most - and to tap the full potential of the Least Developed Countries helping them make progress on the road to prosperity.

The Fifth United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries was held in two parts.

The first part was held at United Nations Headquarters in New York, on 17 March 2022.

The second part of the Conference was held in Doha from 5 to 9 March 2023. This conference featured 10 plenary meetings, 8 high-level thematic round tables, 5 focused tracks, and engaging side events.

The Doha Programme of Action reminds us that global recovery depends on LDCs getting the support they need.

They need bold investments in health, education and social protection systems — all the resources required to fully implement Agenda 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals.

António Guterres, United Nations Secretary-General
