About the event
The fundamental values of forests are widely recognized, especially in the context of climate change and sustaining biodiversity. Forests and oceans are the two lungs that sustain our planet’s atmosphere. They regulate climate, rainfall patterns and global temperatures. This UNEA-3 side event on Forests and Life on Land offers an opportunity to highlight the importance of forests, from their contributions to economies and industry, to diversity and energy. High level speakers will discuss how forests are an integral part of the 2030 Agenda, and recent policy developments including the landmark adoption of the UN Strategic Plan for Forests 2030 by the UN General Assembly. This side event on Forests and Life on Land offers an opportunity for initiating discussions which are meant to amplify and capture the importance of forests as the world heads to the 13th Session of the United Nations Forum on Forests in May 2018 and to the July 2018 High Level Political Forum (HLPF) during the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
